FAQ
The ideal pH for a hyaluronic acid and niacinamide serum can depend on the specific formulation and the desired stability and efficacy of the ingredients. However, as a general guideline, hyaluronic acid tends to work best at a slightly acidic pH, while niacinamide is stable and effective in a broader pH range.
Hyaluronic acid is most stable and retains its moisturizing properties at a pH range of around 5 to 7. Therefore, aiming for a pH around 5.5 to 6.5 is commonly recommended for hyaluronic acid serums. This is where poetry's Intensely Hydrating Serum's Ph sits.
Maintaining the appropriate pH can help ensure the stability, efficacy, and compatibility of the ingredients in your serum. It's always recommended to follow good manufacturing practices and consult with a skincare professional or dermatologist for personalized advice based on your specific needs.
The ideal pH of a cleansing oil can vary depending on the specific formulation and the intended purpose of the product. However, as a general guideline, a pH close to the skin's natural pH level is often considered ideal for cleansing oils.
The skin's natural pH is typically slightly acidic, ranging from around 4.5 to 5.5. Cleansing oils such as Poetry Skincare's Nourishing Cleansing oil with a pH within this range can help maintain the skin's natural acid mantle and support the skin's barrier function. This pH range is also believed to be gentle on the skin and less likely to disrupt the natural balance.
Ultimately, choosing a cleansing oil like Poetry's Nourishing Cleansing Oil with a pH that is close to the skin's natural pH and compatible with your skin type and concerns can help ensure a gentle and effective cleansing experience. If you have specific skin concerns or sensitivities, consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional can provide further guidance on choosing the best cleansing oil for your needs.
Rosehip oil and jojoba oil are both natural oils commonly used in skincare products, including face oils. Since these oils are predominantly made up of fatty acids and do not contain water, they do not have a pH value like water-based products. pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous solution.
However, it's worth noting that the pH of the skin itself plays a role in maintaining a healthy skin barrier and overall skin health. The skin's natural pH typically ranges from around 4.5 to 5.5, which is slightly acidic. This acidic pH helps to support the skin's protective barrier and maintain its natural functions.
When formulating a face oil that includes rosehip oil and jojoba oil, it's generally recommended to focus on the quality and purity of the oils rather than trying to adjust the pH. That is why Poetry Skincare uses high-quality, cold-pressed, organic rosehip, jojoba, argan and apricot kernel oils that are minimally processed to retain their beneficial properties.
If you're concerned about the pH of your overall skincare routine, it's more relevant to consider the pH of water-based products such as cleansers, toners, or serums. Maintaining the skin's natural pH balance through these products can help support overall skin health. Using a well-formulated face oil with high-quality oils should not significantly affect the skin's pH.
As always, if you have specific skin concerns or conditions, it's recommended to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional for personalized advice and recommendations tailored to your skin's needs.
It is important to us that our products are skin and planet safe so we are very conscious of ingredients that may harm our eco-system and waterways and if so, we choose not to use those ingredients. We choose not to use phenoxyethanol due to it possibly being toxic and an irritant, so instead we choose preservative systems that are both green and effective (the green version of pentylene glycol).
We do not use any animal-derived ingredients so yes we are vegan.
To ensure safety during pregnancy, consider the following guidelines:
-
Consult with your healthcare provider: Always consult with your healthcare provider or obstetrician before using any skincare product, especially if you have specific concerns or known sensitivities.
-
Patch test: Perform a patch test on a small area of skin before applying the face oil to your face to check for any adverse reactions or sensitivities.
-
Avoid unnecessary additives: During pregnancy, it's generally recommended to minimize exposure to unnecessary additives, fragrances, and essential oils. If you have concerns, consider using fragrance-free or essential oil-free products.
Your healthcare provider will have the best understanding of your specific circumstances and can provide personalized advice on skincare product usage during pregnancy.
Poetry Skincare's Vitamin A Face Oil contains Rosa Damascena Flower Oil at under 1%. While Rosa damascena (Rose) oil is generally considered safe for topical use during pregnancy, it's recommended to exercise caution and consult with your healthcare provider before using any skincare products, including face oils, during pregnancy. This is because individual sensitivities and pregnancy-related changes can vary.
Regarding the specific concentration of Rosa damascena oil in your face oil, it's important to note that there isn't a set guideline or threshold for safe usage during pregnancy. However, many skincare products contain very low concentrations of essential oils, including Rosa damascena, typically less than 1%.
Poetry Skincare's Nourishing Cleansing Oil and Intensely Hydrating Serum do not contain any essential oils or synthetic fragrances. Poetry Skincare follows strict IFRA guidelines and standards for essential oils usage in leave on products. Here at Poetry we are proud to have full transparency of our ingredients and their listings for your reference and safety.
To ensure safety when using Poetry's Nourishing Cleansing Oil around the eyes, consider the following guidelines:
-
Patch test: Perform a patch test on a small area of skin on your face near your ear, and/or the inner forearm for ten minutes once a day for three days, to check for any adverse reactions or sensitivities before applying the product directly to your face.
-
Avoid direct contact with eyes: Even if the cleansing oil is considered safe for use around the eyes, it's still important to avoid direct contact with the eyes themselves. Take care to keep the product away from the immediate eye area during application.
- Rinse thoroughly: After using the cleansing oil, make sure to rinse the eye area thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue.
- If in the unlikely event that irritation does occur, rinse your eyes well with clean water and seek the advice of a medical practitioner.
If you have any concerns or known sensitivities, it's always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist or optometrist before using new products around the eye area. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific needs and help ensure your safety and comfort.
We are extremely aware of the ethical concerns of using Palm oil and it's derivatives so we consciously avoid using Palm Oil in our products.
Our supplier being the largest processor and supplier of fats and oils to Australia takes a pro-active approach in addressing and responding to a wide range of consumer issues, including ecological and environmental concerns.
One such pro-active measure is membership and involvement in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). This organisation audits and certifies suppliers based on their level of sustainability and traceability and is a not-for-profit global association formally established under Article 60 of the Swiss Civil Code. By taking a multi-stakeholder approach, the Roundtable provides a unique forum for the pragmatic co-operation, consideration and promotion of sustainable production and use of Palm oil.
We have worked closely with our suppliers to learn more about the supply chain of our ingredients, and we discovered that some of the ingredients we use are more likely to be palm oil derived than from coconut. These ingredients include a surfactant and an emulsifier.
Our supplier imports significant volumes of Palm Oil from Peninsula Malaysia. Our supplier sources and procures Palm Oil from well-established plantations, many of which would have been converted from existing rubber plantations over two decades ago. As such, there are no implications of present or planned rainforest destruction in these areas.
Our supplier has no contracts with plantations in Borneo or Sumatra for the supply of Palm Oil.

For sensitive skin, a concentration of niacinamide ranging from 2% to 5% is often recommended. Poetry Skincare uses between 3 - 4% Niacinamide.
It's important to note that sensitivity can be influenced by other factors as well, such as the overall formulation, combination with other ingredients, and individual skin tolerances. It's always advisable to perform a patch test before applying the serum to your entire face. Apply a small amount of the product on the inner side of your forearm or behind your ear and observe for any signs of irritation or sensitivity for 24 to 48 hours.
If you experience any adverse reactions, such as redness, itching, or discomfort, it's best to discontinue use and consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional for further guidance. They can evaluate your specific situation and provide personalized recommendations based on your skin's needs and sensitivities.
Additionally, it's important to maintain a well-rounded skincare routine and protect your skin from potential irritants such as harsh cleansers, excessive exfoliation, or environmental aggressors. Consistency, proper hydration, and gentle skincare practices can help support sensitive skin.
